How to Measure Your Nails for Press Ons (2 Easy Methods)
Method 1: Soft Measuring Tape (Most Accurate)
- Wrap a soft measuring tape across the widest part of your natural nail, from sidewall to sidewall, following the nail's natural curve.
- Read the width in millimeters and write it down.
- Repeat for all ten fingers — measure both hands, they're often slightly different.
Method 2: Paper Strip + Ruler
- Lay a thin strip of paper flat across the widest point of your nail.
- Mark both sidewalls on the paper with a pen.
- Measure the distance between the marks with a ruler — that's your nail width in mm.

Choosing Between Two Sizes?
If your measurement falls between two sizes, always size up. A slightly larger press on nail can be gently filed at the sides for a perfect fit, while a too-small nail will lift at the edges and won't last. The press on should cover your natural nail sidewall to sidewall without pressing into the skin.
Standard Sizes Don't Match? Go Custom
Most people's left and right hands measure differently — that's normal. Measure the widest part of each natural nail in millimeters (soft tape or paper-strip method above), then match your five measurements to the size chart. If they don't match one size, choose Custom.
What if I'm between press on nail sizes?
Size up and file the sides for a perfect fit. Never size down — a nail that's too small lifts and pops off.
Are press on nail sizes the same across brands?
No. Every brand's XS–L chart is different, so always measure against the NailElf chart above rather than assuming your size from another brand.
Do I need to measure both hands?
Yes — most people have small differences between hands. Matching each finger individually is what makes a handmade set feel invisible.
